Meet the Team Joseph Aldred

One of the most exciting parts of growing a team is welcoming people who bring fresh perspective and curiosity to the work. Today, we are introducing Joseph Aldred, one of our Grain Data Collectors, whose background in chemistry and passion for learning adds a unique layer to our grain models.

From Chemistry to Grain

Joseph completed their Bachelor of Chemistry in 2023. Joining Ground Truth Ag felt like a natural next step.

“It was related to my degree,” they explain. “The lab work here is relevant to what I studied.”

While grain was new territory, that learning curve was part of the appeal.

“Everything with grain is new to me, and I find it all interesting.”

What They Do

As a Grain Data Collector, Joseph works at the intersection of lab analysis and AI development. Their role includes collecting and organizing lab data, annotating samples to support AI training, and testing benchtop units to ensure performance and reliability.

They are currently leading annotation work on yellow peas, helping build and refine the models that support accurate detection and grading.

“Right now I am in charge of the peas, so I just want to do my absolute best with that.”

In a growing company, ownership over a crop model is both a responsibility and an opportunity, and Joseph has stepped confidently into that role.

What They Enjoy Most

For Joseph, one of the best parts of working at Ground Truth Ag is the team itself.

“The people. Everyone’s great.”

They also value the opportunity to continuously learn. Coming from a chemistry background, stepping into agriculture and AI has opened up an entirely new field to explore.

Looking Ahead

Joseph’s goal is simple and meaningful: continue building strong models for yellow peas and contribute wherever they can. In a startup environment, learning never stops and that is exactly what excites them.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, Joseph’s interests are anything but ordinary.

They are an antique reseller, specializing primarily in glassware and ceramics. Sourcing undervalued pieces and giving them new life is part research, part instinct, and part treasure hunt.

“Surprisingly, Regina is not hard to find things in,” they say. Smaller towns like Indian Head can also be great spots for hidden gems.

Joseph also builds virtual reality worlds and avatars using programs like Unity and Blender. Their specialty? Horror escape environments where people can log in and experience immersive, suspenseful worlds they have designed themselves.

When it comes to horror, they are always on the hunt for films with solid ratings, having already worked through most of the well known titles.

From chemistry labs to antique markets to virtual horror worlds, Joseph brings curiosity and creativity into everything they do, and we are excited to have them building the future of grain quality with us.
