Meet Brandon Hillbom
At Ground Truth Agriculture, we’re passionate about driving meaningful change in the agriculture sector through innovation. One of the bright minds contributing to this mission is Brandon Hillbom, a Junior Full Stack Developer whose journey with us began in a rather serendipitous way.
Brandon first connected with Ground Truth Agriculture through his final year engineering project—a mobile app design that laid the groundwork for current developments at the company. "After my capstone, I reached out to see if there were any positions available. Kyle mentioned there was an opportunity, and I jumped at it," Brandon recalls. His decision was driven by a desire to contribute to meaningful changes and a keen interest in the dynamic world of startups. "Having worked in startups before, I appreciate the agility and the substantial impact that individual contributions can have," he explains.
While not originally from a farming background, Brandon feels a deep connection to the agriculture industry through his grandfather, who spent 34 years working with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. "It’s like small pieces of my life naturally pointed me towards Ground Truth Agriculture," he shares.
Asked about his favorite aspect of working at Ground Truth, Brandon doesn’t hesitate: "It’s definitely the team environment. Ideas are welcomed, discussed, and often swiftly implemented, which makes for a continuously evolving and improving workflow."
In his current role, Brandon is involved in both front-end and back-end development, ensuring that the customer support app he’s developing is not only functional but also user-friendly. "I’m mostly focused on making our systems more scalable and user-oriented, which is crucial for our growth," he explains.
As for future aspirations, Brandon is keen on continuing to expand his skills in full-stack development and contributing to Ground Truth’s mission. "Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn, and that’s what keeps me motivated," he concludes.
