Meet the Team: Shubham Bajaj
One of the most exciting things about being a start up is building a team that brings energy, curiosity, and ambition to the table. Over the next while, we’ll be introducing you to more of our team at Ground Truth Ag, continuing with Mechatronics Technician, Shubham Bajaj.
From Delhi to Regina and From Circuits to Crops
Shubham’s path to Ground Truth Ag started in India, where he earned his degree in Mechatronics Engineering. It’s a field that blends mechanics, electronics, and computing, which is perfect for someone who’s always been drawn to interdisciplinary challenges.
After moving to Canada to study Automation and Robotics at Centennial College, Shubham was eager to land a job that would let him stay true to his background. The opportunity at Ground Truth Ag stood out not just because it matched his skill set, but because it offered something deeper.
“Back home, agriculture is still very manual,” he says. “When I saw how Ground Truth was using AI to automate and improve grain grading, it really connected with me. It felt like a chance to do something meaningful and something that’s the future.”
What He Does
As a Mechatronics Technician, Shubham focuses on hardware systems integration. He builds and installs the electrical and mechanical components inside our benchtop devices, helping bring our AI-powered grain grading system to life.
He’s also hands-on with system testing, sensor calibration, and troubleshooting; making sure everything runs smoothly before deployment.
While the software team handles scripting, Shubham flashes firmware, configures components, and works closely with engineering to help refine our builds. “Every day there’s a new challenge,” he says. “It’s not repetitive, which makes it exciting. You’re learning all the time.”
What He Enjoys Most
For Shubham, it’s the people and the pace that stand out.
“Everyone here is so welcoming and collaborative,” he says. “I came in pretty quiet, but I quickly felt part of the team. You can ask questions, suggest ideas, and you’re encouraged to grow.”
He especially enjoys the problem-solving side of the job and experimenting with how to improve system design, streamline processes, and make hardware easier to assemble. “One of my goals is to contribute something that lasts,” he explains. “Maybe it’s a process or solution that becomes part of lasting impact in agriculture.”
Outside the Shop
When he’s not solving tech puzzles, you’ll often find Shubham cooking. He picked up the love of food early, working in an Italian restaurant and experimenting with recipes at home. Lately he’s been exploring desserts, like lemon meringue pies, with the same precision and creativity he brings to the lab.
He’s also a sports fan, especially basketball. “I play every chance I get,” he says. “And I follow Satnam Singh. He was the first Indian player drafted into the NBA. I even met him once back in college!”
One Thing You Might Not Know
Shubham comes off quiet at first, but don’t let that fool you. Once he’s comfortable, he’s a talker, especially when the topic is something he’s curious about.
We’re lucky to have Shubham helping build the hardware and the energy behind Ground Truth Ag’s technology.
