Meet Christian Miranda

Building a strong and innovative team is one of the most rewarding parts of being a startup. At Ground Truth Ag, weโ€™re proud to bring together a talented group of individuals who share our vision and contribute to our growing company culture. Over the next while, weโ€™ll be introducing you to more members of our team, starting with our committed Grain Data Collector, Christian Miranda.

Meet Christian

Honestly, Iโ€™m grateful that this is my first job,โ€ says Christian, a full-time student who joined Ground Truth Ag in April 2022. โ€œEveryone here is really great to work with, and the environment is amazing. Thatโ€™s one of the most important things to meโ€”enjoying where you work because of the people and the culture.โ€

Christianโ€™s journey to Ground Truth Ag began through a connection with CEO Kyle Folk, who had previously worked with Christianโ€™s mother. When a lab assistant role opened up, Christianโ€™s skills and enthusiasm made him a natural fit for the position. Since joining, he has embraced his responsibilities and become an integral part of the team.

As a Grain Data Collector, Christian works closely with the machine learning team, gathering and analyzing data to support the development of innovative grain-grading technology. While his tasks can be dynamic and challenging, Christian finds the evolving nature of his work enjoyable. โ€œMost people might dislike a job where the tasks keep changing, but I find itโ€™s a great way to grow and challenge myself,โ€ he says. โ€œItโ€™s not exactly the same every timeโ€”thereโ€™s always something new to learn and improve on.โ€

Christian is also pursuing a degree in biochemistry, which occasionally intersects with his work at Ground Truth Ag. โ€œRight now, Iโ€™m taking a course in analytical chemistry that covers spectroscopy, and while itโ€™s not directly related to what I do here, there are some overlaps,โ€ he explains.

Looking ahead, Christian has both personal and team-oriented goals. โ€œI want to learn how to integrate more grains and crops into our system,โ€ he says. โ€œRight now, Iโ€™m focused on Canadian Western Red Spring wheat, but Iโ€™d love to expand my knowledge to other grains like soybeans or red lentils.โ€ On a broader scale, Christian takes pride in being part of a team that has advanced from manual processes to highly efficient systems. โ€œWeโ€™re so close to achieving our goals, and itโ€™s exciting to be part of that journey.โ€

Outside of work and school, Christian enjoys outdoor activities, travelling with family, spending time with friends, and learning new skills. โ€œIn the summer, I love paddleboarding, hiking, and playing sports like tennis, volleyball, and pickleball,โ€ he says. Most recently, heโ€™s taken up snowboarding. โ€œI have my first lesson tomorrow,โ€ he shares, adding that heโ€™s been watching videos to prepare for the inevitable tumbles.

When asked about something surprising that people might not know about him, Christian laughs and says, โ€œIโ€™m pretty introverted at first, but once I get to know someone, Iโ€™m quite talkative. My friends call me a bit of a yapper!โ€

Christianโ€™s enthusiasm for learning and his collaborative spirit makes him a valued member of the Ground Truth Ag team.
